Mike Gilles, Markus Naslunds former agent, is now the GM of the Vancouver Canucks. Now I know agents, I have two myself and they're the worst kind of scum of the earth. They answer the phone and negotiate one contract every five years for their clients and for that they get to live off the hard work sweat and tears of young men who are infinitely more talented then them. Hiring Mike Gilles as the GM? Why not the Team Doctor, or how about Sami Salos hair dresser maybe she's available.... http://vancouverplayers.com/trackback.php?id=20080423125631460 Pool Decided by Man Games http://vancouverplayers.com/article.php?story=20080222125116962 http://vancouverplayers.com/article.php?story=20080222125116962 Fri, 22 Feb 2008 12:51:00 -0500 http://vancouverplayers.com/article.php?story=20080222125116962#comments Canucks Well it looks as though the smoke has cleared for the Burnaby Bong Water and they are ready to make their way towards this years president's Cup as the regular season winners unless they suffer a total collapse like Canucks vs. Minnesota in the first round of the playoffs a few years back or Canucks vs Detroit when Cloutier let in the slapper from center also in the playoffs. The real story here was man games and way at the bottom of the man games chart is of course Certified Organics and the Okotokers. Although GM's from other clubs may argue that it was their job at selection time that made the difference the real difference was injuries. With 101 man games missed at approximately a point a game Certified Organic for example would be at or near the top. The season is a long way from being over and there still may be hope for second place East Van Blades to make up 26 points and repeat as Season Champions but unless Evgeni Malkin breaks his leg it seems unlikely. Well positioned in second place with a paltry 10 points separating them from the first place Bong Water, The East Van Blades are looking for a repeat championship performance. With a now healthy Zetterberg, the return of Heatley in a few short weeks, and the newly acquired and very well rested Teemu Selanne on the roster, Blades fans are beginning to plan the victory parade down Fraser Street. Is that rain outside or is it the sweat on Alan 'Bong'-Moon's forehead? Either way, the hockey pool is bunching up in the middle (or the bottom) as three teams battle within a few points of each other. The Certified Organics have been really hot lately... they've been burning up the standings... with 31 points so far this week you could say they're smokin'! Is it the prowess of the Organics' GM? Nope. Is it the 4 point night by Zach Parise? Try again. Alfredsson's 18 point month? Uh uh... Then why? It's because Toby's roof is on fire... literally. I'm serious. His roof is actually on fire. And what's going on at the top of the Pool standings? It's not the Blades and since this is my post... who cares? I would like to take this opportunity to remind everyone that at this time one year ago the East Van Blades were 25 points behind the leader... and then they came back to win the season championship. Then again they had Lecavalier, Ovechkin, Briere, Hossa and Malkin too... ah the glory days... sigh. http://vancouverplayers.com/trackback.php?id=200712011442056 2007/2008 Vancouver Players Hockey Pool http://vancouverplayers.com/article.php?story=20070916230255296 http://vancouverplayers.com/article.php?story=20070916230255296 Sun, 16 Sep 2007 23:02:00 -0400 http://vancouverplayers.com/article.php?story=20070916230255296#comments Hockey Pool Get out your $20 and put your stick on the ice...The VP Hockey Pool draft is coming up...Start making your list and checking it twice... http://vancouverplayers.com/trackback.php?id=20070916230255296 David Milchards to be Crowned 2007 Stanley Cup Champions http://vancouverplayers.com/article.php?story=20070530203230173 http://vancouverplayers.com/article.php?story=20070530203230173 Wed, 30 May 2007 20:32:00 -0400 http://vancouverplayers.com/article.php?story=20070530203230173#comments Hockey Pool The end is near and the Stanley Cup Finals are one game in with the Ducks or Canuck Killers winning game one against Canada's Team even tough everyone knows that Ottawa is not really Canada's Team, Vancouver is. With an insurmountable lead and only the East Van Blades with a mathematical albeit highly improbable chance of even making it close, The David Milchards look to capture their first ever Stanley Cup. When asked to comment on the possibility of the win GM David Milchard was quoted as saying. &quot;Well, you know, I don't want to get ahead of myself, you know? Right now it looks good for us but we're just going to take it one game at a time and hope that we come out on top. you know?&quot; GM of the East Van Blades Justin Leigh has left the country already for Mexico and is on holiday, not showing a lot of faith in his teams chances. Everyone else will be looking forward to packing up the Golf bag and hitting the links until it comes time for Pre-Season 2007-08 and next years hockey pool. http://vancouverplayers.com/trackback.php?id=20070530203230173 Final Four Set http://vancouverplayers.com/article.php?story=20070511123352831 http://vancouverplayers.com/article.php?story=20070511123352831 Fri, 11 May 2007 12:33:00 -0400 http://vancouverplayers.com/article.php?story=20070511123352831#comments Hockey Pool The David Milchards look to hold off a late charge by the Blades Well, the playoffs are drawing to a close as the final four are set and underway with the Senators taking game one in a blow out. Early playoff pool leaders like the Bongwater and the Heroes have fallen by the wayside as the Canucks and the GM's that picked with their hearts all have to wait until next year. Meanwhile a very interesting battle is developing at the top of the board. Regular Season champions the East Van Blades have a real shot at taking top spot from the David Milchards as they have several players that they do not have in common. If the sabres and senators go seven games with a lot of goals we could see a real race at the top of the standings. This author beleives that if you don't have Anaheim and Ottawa going to the cup final you might be in trouble! One more month of hockey to see if the cup can stay in Canada and the East Van Blades can become the first team ever to capture the regular season title and the Stanley Cup in the same season. http://vancouverplayers.com/trackback.php?id=20070511123352831 Bring On The Ducks! http://vancouverplayers.com/article.php?story=20070424231403281 http://vancouverplayers.com/article.php?story=20070424231403281 Tue, 24 Apr 2007 23:14:00 -0400 http://vancouverplayers.com/article.php?story=20070424231403281#comments Canucks <img width="218" height="250" src="http://vancouverplayers.com/images/articles/20070424231403281_1.jpg" alt=""> http://vancouverplayers.com/trackback.php?id=20070424231403281 Saturdays Game http://vancouverplayers.com/article.php?story=20070423132346153 http://vancouverplayers.com/article.php?story=20070423132346153 Mon, 23 Apr 2007 13:23:00 -0400 http://vancouverplayers.com/article.php?story=20070423132346153#comments Poker An impromptu game was held at the clubhouse and the general vibe was most players are scared shitless for game seven Canucks and Stars. The cards dropped with six players making an appearance at the space for a round of texas hold 'em VP style. In seat one we had Tallulah Winkelman, seat two was David Mcgowan, seat three was Tobias Berner, seat four was Mr. Alan Wong-Moon, seat five was Drew Mccreadie of the clan McCreadie and rounding out the game was the always dangerous Justin Leigh. The game started with fireworks right away as Dave was dealt pocket rockets in early postion. He raised it up and met with two re-raises around the table one from Alan, pocket Jacks and one from Drew king queen off suit. Dave re-raised again all-in and Alan and Drew both called! Dave managed to have his aces hold up all the way and took down a huge six thousand dollar pot in the very first hand busting out two players before their seats were even warm. What a start. Alans luck seemed to focus on the aces all night, he had pocket rockets three times throughout the game and was beaten twice by Toby while he had the monster, once with a hidden two pair after the flop and once by totally drawing out with a Qh-Jh flush draw that actually hit on the turn. All of the players were playing well and it made for a long game but it came down to Alan and Toby heads up after Tallulah was eliminated in third place by Alan sucking out with a drawing hand. The heads up battle was ferocious - huge stacks of chips went back and forth as Alan and Toby battled heads up for almost an hour and half! It was highly reminiscent of the Dallas Vancouver series. With almost a 2-1 chip lead Toby tried to eliminate Alan but time after time Alan's luck held up and he was able to flop the cards he needed and make the come back. Finally it came down to Alan with the chip lead just barely, he called an all-in by Toby who was holding Q-J. Alan had one King in his hand and that was all he needed to take down the $180 for first place. Alan was solely responsible for juicing the pot all night as he busted out three times before the cut off and was in the pot for $100 so he won back his money plus some. Toby only bought in once and took down $80 for second place. Great game, everyone had their game on, let's hope the Canucks bring the same intensity to game seven and move on to the second round. Go Canucks Go!!! http://vancouverplayers.com/trackback.php?id=20070423132346153
